Basseterre, St. Kitts – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Inspector of Pumps at the St. Kitts Water Services Department (WSD), Ian Francis, disclosed that trials to assess the feasibility of extending the hours of access to water service would be conducted for a third day, following a successful two-day run. The trial began on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in the following areas:
- Shadwell West

- Shadwell
- Pine Gardens
- Buckleys (Housing, Park, and Extension)
- Wades Garden

- Taylors
Extended Hours of Service
In addition to regular water service from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., the WSD provides access to water from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as part of the trials.
A Balancing Act
During his appearance on the WSD’s radio program, The Water Line, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Assistant Water Engineer Mikhail Isaac commented on the factors influencing the WSD’s ability to provide water service in the evenings to areas involved in the trials. “It is somewhat of a balancing act between how the system is run in the morning, how it draws down during that time, and how quickly we could replenish it for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.,” Isaac said. Addressing the impact of water consumption on the trials’ effectiveness, Mr. Isaac also called on residents in trial zones to “be conservative and frugal” in their use of water.
