St Kitts & Nevis to Host CTU ICT Week 2024

Date:

The Honourable Konris Maynard, the Minister of Information, Communications, Technology, and Posts, has confirmed that St. Kitts and Nevis will host the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Week of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) from September 30 to October 4, 2024, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

Minister Maynard issued an official statement from Belize, where he attended the CTU’s 50th Executive Council (EC50) meeting, its 21st Caribbean Ministerial Strategic ICT Seminar, and the Inaugural Caribbean ICT Ministers’ Retreat from 11th – 13th April 2024.

Dr Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau, is expected to headline CTU Week 2024. Dr Zavazava’s focus includes promoting investment in infrastructure, innovation, and inclusion as drivers of sustainable development.

CTU Week brings together ICT Ministers across the Region, industry practitioners like Tel Cos, and Big Tech like Meta (Facebook). It is the largest meeting of the CTU and provides a platform for ICT stakeholders to network, exchange ideas, innovate, and shape ICT-related policies. Minister Maynard and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Technology and Posts, Mrs. Cheryleann Pemberton, will attend the meetings.

The CTU was established by treaty on April 28, 1989, by Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). In 2004, it amended its membership structure to allow the participation of non-CARICOM Caribbean States, the private sector, and civil society. It also revised its mission to include all aspects of ICT in 2004.

The CTU’s mission is “To create an environment in partnership with members to optimize returns from ICT resources for the benefit of stakeholders.”
